The World Record For Push Ups

5 December 2010 No Comment

There are some records in sports and physical fitness feats that seem to get broken yearly or every couple of years.  Yet, there are some that have lasted the test of time, some being so unbelievable that they may never be duplicated, much less beaten!  One such world record is for pushups.

As M&F recently reported, “10,507….Number of consecutive push-ups performed by Japan’s Minoru Yoshida in 1980, the current world record.”

That’s 30 years and going!  When was the last time you plopped down to the floor and started banging some pushups out?  How many did you complete, if any?  Many get so mezmorized by more popular chest, triceps, and upper body exercises like the bench press that they fail to realize that not necessarily are those other exercises more effective at building and toning muscle, but simple exercises like push ups have been responsible for some excellent physique development.

Take one glance at most gymnasts or even prisoners.  What is hands down one of the main exercises they use?  The good, old fashion pushups.  That’s why we are always praising equipment like Tony Horton’s Power Stands Pushup Handles, since they allow you to take an already incredible movement and make it better!
