The Wii Doesn’t Burn More Calories Than Regular Exercise

23 December 2010 No Comment

We’re all for finding anything that actually makes you get off the couch and do something.  We rather have people doing something they enjoy that at that same time helps them burn calories, lose weight, burn fat, and become conditioned.  However, please realize that just because you may be using the latest gadget it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s better than good, old fashion exercise.

In a recent column in M&F, they wrote that “grown men playing an “active” game like Wii and calling it a workout is downright childish.  Researchers at Auckland University of Technology (New Zealand) had 26 boys play Wii bowling, boxing, tennis and fit skiing, and found they expended no more energy than when walking.  In other words, even the most active video games don’t constitute intense physical activity.”

There’s a reason why those that workout to a real routine, like Shaun T’s INSANITY Workout Program, look a million times better than your average Wii-only player!
